McElroy, Ryan announced, is dealing with a concussion and has been ruled out of Sunday's meaningless Week 17 game against the Bills. And even though Tim Tebow is on the roster and hasn't started a game, Ryan said Thursday he will start Sanchez at quarterback.
"Obviously Tim's not happy with that," Ryan said.
Um, no kidding? Tebow's been the talk of the town this week (more than even usual, somehow) because of a report following Week 16 that he refused to participate in the Jets Wildcat packages that week.
But Ryan insisted that, even with Sanchez starting, Tebow could still play.
"That doesn't mean that Tim won't play in this game, I just feel more comfortable with Mark," Ryan said.
McElroy's concussion apparently occurred against the Chargers. This shouldn't be surprising since he was sacked 11 times.
Rex Ryan just said Greg McElroy has a concussion. Didn't tell trainers he had symptoms. Won't play Sunday. Mark sanchez will start. #Jets— Jets RapidReports (@CBSJets) December 27, 2012
Speaking of counting things, I'm fairly certain this is the third time Ryan's made a quarterback change this year without going to Tebow, so forsaken thrice and Judas and whatnot I guess?
Look, the reality is this: Sanchez has a monster cap number and a monster guaranteed salary in 2013. He's not getting traded and he's not getting released. Tebow probably is. What good would it do for Ryan to start Tebow at this point, have him succeed and then make Ryan look like a complete fool for not playing him throughout the year?
Tebow would leave anyway and Sanchez will be in New York, somehow feeling worse than he does now.
At this point, nothing should be surprising. The circus came to town and never left.
