Vikings QB Christian Ponder inactive for Packers game, Joe Webb to start

By Ryan Wilson |

Quarterback Christian Ponder, the Vikings' first-round draft pick in 2011 who started all 16 games this season, is inactive for Saturday night's wild-card matchup against the Packers. He has bursitis in his throwing elbow.

Backup Joe Webb will make his first start since Week 13 of the 2011 season.

Ponder worked out on the field in Green Bay prior to the game before it was determined he couldn't go. In the regular season, Ponder completed 62 percent of his passes, throwing for 2,935 yards, 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He added 253 yards rushing (4.2 yards per carry).

Webb, a sixth-round pick in 2010, has completed 58 percent of his passes during this three-year NFL career (17 games) for 853 yards, with three touchdowns and five interceptions. Like Ponder, Webb is mobile, rushing for 273 yards (6.7 YPC).

In case you're wondering, McLeod Bethel-Thompson will be Webb's backup.
