Texans DE J.J. Watt wins Defensive Player of the Year

NEW ORLEANS -- J.J. Watt was an absolute monster in 2012 for the Houston Texans and he was rewarded for his performance Saturday when, in his second year in the NFL, was named Defensive Player of the Year.

Watt finished the season with 20.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and an insane 16 pass deflections. And he did all that from the 3-4 defensive end position.

That is not supposed to happen, but it did for Watt in 2012 and the voters showed how obvious a choice Watt was as he got 49 votes. (Broncos linebacker Von Miller, the only other player to receive a vote, got one.) And he thinks it's going nowhere but up.

"I can get a lot better," Watt said when asked about his year and improving. "I'm only 23."

It's kind of hard to imagine, considering how Watt played this year.

But it's certainly possible and it should be a scary thought for opposing teams when they see the Texans on their schedule in the future.
