Ray Lewis III signs letter of intent to Miami on National Signing Day

By Will Brinson | NFL Writer

It's been a pretty, pretty, pretty good week for the family of Ray Lewis. On Sunday, the Ravens linebacker (and patriarch of the family) played his last NFL down, walking away from the game with the Lombardi Trophy in hand. On Tuesday, there was a giant parade in Baltimore. And on Wednesday, Ray Lewis III (Ray's son) followed in dad's footsteps by attending the University of Miami.

It's no shock that the Canes landed the younger Lewis on National Signing Day -- full CBSSports.com NSD coverage here, including eight hours of video action from Bruce Feldman, Jeremy Fowler and Kevin Corke -- as he'd already committed to Miami previously.

This simply makes it official.

Lewis played primarily as a running back, piling up more than 9,000 yards and almost 100 touchdowns. But he's said he'll play "wherever" when he gets to college.

"I'll play wherever," Lewis III said recently. "I'll play wherever I fit in or wherever I can help the team."

Wherever he plays -- he's likely to have his dad watching. Or just standing on the sidelines throwing up DA U.

The original Ray said that he's excited about being able to watch his kids play football now that he's stepping away from the game.

And the Miami football family should be pumped too; having Ray Lewis III on the field is a big boost to the program, but it's not nearly as big in terms of recruiting as having Ray Lewis on the sidelines.
