Richard Sherman: Darrelle Revis is 'irrelevant in my mind'

By Will Brinson | NFL Writer

If you don't love the Richard Sherman-Darrelle Revis war about which one is the best cornerback in the NFL (started on Twitter, natch), I'm not sure what to tell you. It's a fun offseason distraction and will end up providing extra scrutiny for the two defensive backs next year.

This would be doubly true if the Revis-to-San-Francisco scuttlebutt actually came true, but Sherman isn't interested in where Revis ends up playing, even if it's for the division-rival 49ers.

"It'd be fun either way. There's always a rivalry there," Sherman said on Seattle radio recently, via "I still wouldn't get to play against him directly, so it really wouldn't matter to me. I'm sure our receivers would have a little fun with him. I don't mind either way. He's really irrelevant in my mind."

The Twitter battle itself has been given the stamp of approval by the Seahawks front office, with GM John Schneider saying he actually enjoys seeing Sherman run his mouth on social media, because it shows what kind of guy he is.

Sherman actually compared the trash talk to Revis to his trash talk on the field, saying that both are just "kind of my mind-set" and all part of him trying to "win the game."

"I mean, it's a little bit of both, you just kind of want to win the game," Sherman said. "Whatever it takes to win the game is kind of my mind-set. You go in there and if it's getting them guys in their head ... I'm just trying to win the game, whatever it takes."

There's no telling to what degree his trash talk helps him actually, um, win on the field. But Sherman spent all of 2012 running his mouth to just about everyone who would listen, and things went quite well for him. With Revis sidelined, there's little question he was the most dominant corner in the NFL.

Which is precisely why Revis' return -- and the potential for landing in the NFC West -- make this battle so fascinating.
