Reports: Jets have 'good offer' on table for Revis, deal inevitable

By Will Brinson | NFL Writer

"As the Revis Turns" is the NFL's favorite soap opera these days, with the Jets working hard to trade their All-Pro cornerback in a contract/comeback year. And they could pull trigger soon, as they reportedly have a "good" offer on the table.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported Monday evening that a team has offered Darrelle Revis a "good" deal that includes compensation due to the cornerback once he arrives in his new, currently unknown destination.

Florio also reports that Revis' camp hasn't been informed of the compensation. Also, Revis' agents haven't been given permission to discuss a new deal with the new team currently tossing out the reported offer.

That complicates things a bit.

And it doesn't help that local media's turning up the heat on the Jets as well, with Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News writing Tuesday that Revis and the team are "headed for a divorce" and the Jets are "poised to trade" the cornerback.

"I think [the Jets are] going to move Revis,” the source told the Daily News. "Bet it. If he isn't traded by [Wednesday], [general manager John] Idzik is an idiot. One buyer might dry out. He has to move him. The risk of keeping him kills the franchise for five years and Idzik is gone."

I'm not sure that keeping Revis necessarily "kills the franchise for five years" as Revis is a very good player. Revis wanting quarterback money could be a problem, however, and it's a problem that Woody Johnson quite clearly doesn't feel like dealing with.

The Jets have a decent window to move Revis if they want to: starting at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday and on into the next week, free agency will be rolling along and all of the NFL owners will convene in Phoenix for annual meetings.

It's not the only window to move Revis, because, as the 2013 season gets closer and Revis gets further away from his ACL injury, he'll be able to prove more easily to other teams that he's healthy.

But even if they decided to make a move on the offer they've reportedly got (whether now or later), Revis and his team still have to work something out with whatever franchise he'd be headed to.

It's a complex situation that might not come to a head just yet.
