After spending the past six seasons in New Orleans, tackle Jermon Bushrod has scored a five-year, $35.965 million contract (with $17.715 million guaranteed) with the Bears, according to the Chicago Sun Times.
And as the Chicago Tribune helpfully points out:
The avg salary for Jermon Bushrod $7.193 million makes him highest-paid offensive lineman in #Bears history.— Brad Biggs (@BradBiggs) March 12, 2013
So, that's quite a chunk of change for a guy who hasn't always been consistent on a year-to-year basis. But he's also much better than anybody else who's been blocking for quarterback Jay Cutler.
At one point, the Saints reportedly considered Bushrod to be their top priority of New Orleans players to re-sign, but apparently, New Orleans didn't want him badly enough to pay him the nearly $36 million he agreed to with the Bears.
