Raiders release WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, DB Michael Huff

By Ryan Wilson | CBSSports.com

First, we're working from the premise that the Raiders' Twitter account hasn't been hacked. That said, on a day in which teams are throwing money at free agents, the Raiders have taken a different approach. Namely, they're cutting guys. And not your run-of-the-mill backups occupying roster spots 50-53. These are some high-profile names.

More from the team:

"The Raiders would like to thank Michael Huff and Darrius Heyward-Bey for their contributions to our organization, both on the field and especially in our community, over the last several years. We sincerely wish them well in their future endeavors."

Wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey and defensive back Michael Huff were both first-rounders drafted in the Al Davis era in large part because -- you guessed it -- they could run really fast.

Heyward-Bey, the seventh-overall pick in 2009, caught 140 passes for 2,071 yards (and 11 TDs) in his four-year career. A solid receiver, he never emerged as a legitimate deep threat. Huff was also drafted seventh overall -- in 2006 -- and has played both safety and cornerback during his seven-year career (including 11 interceptions, 55 passes defended).

In other Raiders-related news, the team apparently won't be keeping one of the players they had hoped to. Linebacker Philip Wheeler has signed with the Dolphins, according to a PFT report.
