|NFL offseason news|
As we continue trying to figure out the next destination for Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis -- on the first day of free agency, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora had the Eagles and Buccaneers pursuing New York's top cornerback -- the other Jets cornerback who likely will take over ownership of Revis Island in 2013 has restructured his deal.
Restructuring his contract in this way allows the Jets -- for salary cap purposes -- to spread that signing bonus over the length of the rest of his contract, meaning his cap hit for 2013 has just been decreased. In Cromartie's case, his contract ends after the 2014 season, and he'll still be paid a $4.3 million base salary for the final year of his deal, assuming he's still employed.
But while Cromartie's salary cap number shrinks in 2013, it'll be more expensive to keep him in 2014, because his salary cap number will include half of his signing bonus from this year.
