Seahawks trade Matt Flynn to Raiders for two draft picks

On Friday, it sure looked like a big trade was about to go down, with the Seahawks shipping Matt Flynn to the Raiders. But talks stalled over the holiday weekend. Now that deal is actually going down, with the Seahawks sending Flynn to Oakland for a 2014 fifth-round pick and a 2015 conditional pick the team announced.

Seattle, which no longer needs Flynn thanks to the emergence of Russell Wilson in 2012, has just about finalized moving the backup quarterback to Oakland in exchange for two picks, CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora confirms. "No way it doesn't happen," a source told La Canfora. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports first reported the news on Monday.

As La Canfora also reported on Friday, the Raiders are still working on finalizing a deal to move Carson Palmer to the Cardinals. That deal looked like it could go down on Friday as well, but compensation for Palmer coming back from Arizona appeared to be the holdup.

Flynn's new deal will end up being more lucrative for him, sources told La Canfora, and the Raiders hope to get something for Palmer. Arizona began talks with the Raiders on Friday, once Oakland and Seattle made headway on the Flynn trade.

The Raiders were reportedly interested in making a run at Kevin Kolb if the Flynn deal didn't pan out, but they lost that option when Kolb decided to sign (an as-yet-unannounced deal) with the Bills.

Oakland will have now invested a whopping FIVE draft picks in quarterbacks over the past three years. Two for Palmer (a first- and second-round pick), one for Terrelle Pryor (a supplemental second-round pick) and two for Flynn. The good news for GM Reggie McKenzie on Flynn, however, is that those picks are reportedly in "later rounds" and won't come until the 2014 and 2015 drafts.
