The Atlanta Falcons are looking to get quarterback Matt Ryan signed to an extension before the beginning of the season, and the team will release former Pro Bowl right tackle Tyson Clabo to free up some money.

Chad Speck, Clabo's agent, tweeted the news Thursday.

Clabo has been a mainstay on the right side of the Falcons line for the better part of of seven seasons, logging 105 starts, including the last 91 in a row.

A Pro Bowl selection in 2010, Clabo was due to earn $4.5 million in 2013 -- a price the Falcons were apparently not willing to pay. Atlanta was just $2.4 million under the cap before Clabo was let go, but his release will free up plenty of cash to get Ryan's deal done.

It appears the Falcons will now look to 2012 third-round selection Lamar Holmes to fill the void left by Clabo, one of the least-penalized right tackles in the game.

Clabo, 31, will likely gain plenty of interest on the free-agent market, as he immediately becomes one of the top tackles available.
