The Carolina Panthers and free-agent wide receiver Domenik Hixon have agreed in principle to a deal, the team's website reports. Hixon has spent the past five seasons with the Giants.

"I'm even more blessed to be joining another great organization, the Carolina Panthers!!!" Hixon tweeted Wednesday. "I'm excited and can't wait to start work!"

Hixon had reportedly drawn interest from several teams, including the Browns and Raiders.

Ironically, the Giants signed former Panthers receiver Louis Murphy last month, so the teams effectively swapped mid-level wideouts -- though Hixon could be viewed as a slight upgrade from Murphy.

The Panthers also locked up former San Francisco returner/receiver Ted Ginn last month in an effort to give quarterback Cam Newton more weapons.

Hixon, 28, had one of his best seasons as a pro last year in New York, catching 39 passes for 567 yards and two touchdowns.
