Report: Jets bring back linebacker Calvin Pace

After cutting Calvin Pace in a salary purge two months ago, the Jets are bringing back the outside linebacker on a one-year contract.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the deal. Pace was scheduled to earn $11.6 million this season before he was cut. Releasing him cost the Jets $3 million in dead money, according to ESPN.com. Terms of his new deal were not disclosed.

Pace, 32, signed a six-year, $42 million deal with the Jets in 2008 but has never made a Pro Bowl or recorded double-digit sacks.

Still, he was highly productive that first year as a Jet, registering 80 tackles, seven sacks, five forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.

His sacks declined each of the past three years. Despite playing 94 percent of the defensive snaps last season, Pace finished with just 55 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble.

As the roster stands, Pace and free-agent acquisition Antwan Barnes are the Jets' starting outside linebackers.
