Jets GM John Idzik: Tim Tebow may or may not be in QB competition

Tim Tebow could be in the competition to win the Jets starting quarterback job this offseason -- unless of course, he's not.

Lets let Jets general manager John Idzik explain. "I'm not saying he is. I'm not saying he isn't," Izdik said via the New York Daily News. "I'm just saying, let's let things play out."

Letting things play out may not be the best idea. A war of words recently started between Jeff Garcia -- who's been tutoring Mark Sanchez this offseason -- and Steve Clarkson, Tebow's private quarterback coach.

Garcia called Tebow a 'distraction,' Clarkson then shot back that Sanchez is 'fragile-minded.'

Tebow might not be a distraction much longer though. The New York Daily News points out that he's likely to be released if the Jets can't find a trading partner for him. But for now, Tebow remains in New York.

"He's a Jet and we've gone through some change here and that's what I mean by letting things play out," Idzik said. "We have a new coordinator, we have a new quarterback coach, we have a new offensive system, I'm new. We have several new people within football administration. I think you just gotta let these things develop and evolve."

If the Jets do drop Tebow, the team will be left with three quarterbacks on the roster: Sanchez, David Garrard and Greg McElroy.
