The Seahawks have spent the past few years cultivating a ton of young talent to create one of the better secondaries in the NFL. And Monday they'll reward at least one of those players, as the team is preparing to hand safety Kam Chancellor a four-year extension.

The Seahawks have a news conference scheduled for 5 p.m. ET on Monday; Chancellor's agent, Alvin Keels, tweeted that it's a four-year extension for Chancellor. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports the deal is worth $28 million, with $17 million guaranteed.

Chancellor was taken in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Virginia Tech and has blossomed into one of the bigger backfield thumpers -- and new-age style safeties -- in the NFL.

Paired alongside Earl Thomas in the back of the Seahawks secondary, Chancellor has become a thorn in the side of opposing offenses. (It doesn't hurt to also have Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner back there either.)

In the past three years, Chancellor has produced four picks, two sacks, 17 pass deflections and four forced fumbles. Per Pro Football Focus, Chancellor missed just nine tackles in 2012, which is particularly impressive given how often he's stacking up against the run.

He'll be one of the first extensions handed out by the Seahawks to a slew of young players acquired in later rounds, and he's a piece of the puzzle that Seattle hopes to keep together for a long while.
