With the Kansas City Chiefs likely to select a left tackle with the first overall pick in Thursday's NFL Draft, trade talks between the Chiefs and Dolphins for veteran offensive lineman Branden Albert have reportedly intensified.

The Dolphins are looking to schedule a physical for Albert before mulling a trade for the former 2008 first-round pick, according to the Miami Herald. Last week, a report from Sports Illustrated surfaced that the Chiefs would be willing to trade Albert for a second-round pick. Albert, who signed a one-year, $9.8 million franchise tender with the Chiefs last month, is reportedly in search of a long-term contract that will pay him roughly $9.0 million a year.

Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland could also wait to see how the Top 10 plays out on Thursday night before pulling the trigger on a trade for Albert.Luke Joeckel of Texas A&M, Eric Fisher of Central Michigan and Lane Johnson of Oklahoma are all ranked in the Top 5 in CBSSports.com's latest draft projections. There has been speculation that the Browns (No.6) could be a trading partner for a team in need of a left tackle since the Cardinals are also targeting a bookend tackle at No. 7.

Albert (6-5, 316) ranked ninth among all left tackles last season in pass-blocking efficiency, according to Pro Football Focus. Though Albert has started in 71 of 73 career games, he missed three games last season while dealing with persistent back problems.

The Dolphins are currently $8.79 million under the salary cap, according to Spotrac.com, but will receive additional space from the releases of linebackers Karlos Dansby and Kevin Burnett after June 1.
