Report: Chiefs GM, Coach 'in 100 percent agreement' on No. 1 pick

By Will Brinson | NFL Writer

On Wednesday we heard that the Chiefs had narrowed their choice of players to nab with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft down to four players. Which four was anyone's guess, though we could surmise the list includes Luke Joeckel, Eric Fisher and two defensive players, maybe Dion Jordan or Ezekiel Ansah.

Now comes word that Chiefs coach Andy Reid and general manager John Dorsey have -- finally -- locked onto who they're taking with the No. 1 pick. Ed Werder of ESPN reports the pair are "in 100 percent agreement" on who they'll be taking at the top of the draft. However, according to Werder, there will be "no public reveal" until after they're on the clock in case they want to trade out.

There's the caveat of course; it's like mad libs the way the misinformation flows. [Team name] LOVES [player name] but is also willing to trade [either up or down].

Everything that emerges, rumor- and news-wise, over the next few hours should be taken with a grain of salt. The Chiefs may know who they're taking, but they'll obviously still listen to a trade if someone rings them up.

KC still hasn't solved what they'll do with Branden Albert, although they've reportedly opened negotiations back up several times in the last 24 hours. And Werder reports they won't let whatever they do with Albert affect what they're going to do at the top of the draft.

That is either a) a lie or b) a clear-cut indication that they're going with a tackle at No. 1. They can't possibly be planning on taking a defensive lineman at No. 1 if they're also planning on dealing Albert. I mean, they could, and if Ansah or Jordan went first overall it wouldn't be that stunning I guess.

But rolling into this season without any options at tackles? That's, as the kids say, crazy. And it's just hard to fathom. So barring someone willing to make a bold and spicy move up to No. 1, it sure looks like a virtual lock that they'll take a tackle at the top of the draft.

The only question is which one. And the only people who know aren't talking.
