On Thursday, the Bengals drafted tight end Tyler Eifert in the first round. And moments before they took running back Giovani Bernard with their second-round selection on Friday, the team announced that it had re-signed their 2009 first-rounder, right tackle Andre Smith.
Earlier this week, coach Marvin Lewis admitted that he wanted Smith back in Cincinnati.
"I'm hopeful we can get a solution prior to [Thursday's] draft," he said. "I know Andre would like to get it done. I think he'd feel better about things so he doesn't get lost without a chair."
And now, it seems, Smith has that chair. The former Alabama standout started 30 games the previous two seasons, and he again solidifies the right side of the line along with second-year guard Kevin Zeitler (who, incidentally, was the Bengals' 2012 first-round pick).
