NFL Draft: Steelers select QB Landry Jones in 4th round (115th) pick

In the months leading up to the 2013 NFL Draft, Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert didn't hide the fact that the team was in the market for a young backup quarterback. And, in the fourth round, Pittsburgh selected former Oklahoma passer Landry Jones.

Ben Roethlisberger might be the face of the franchise, but his style of play also leaves him susceptible to big hits and, ultimately, injuries. Which is exactly what happened last season, leaving the Steelers trying to win games with Byron Leftwich and Charlie Batch.

Leftwich won't return. And with the offseason addition of Bruce Gradkowski -- and now Jones -- Batch might have played his last game for the Steelers. While the organization would never call this a rebuilding year, it entered the draft with myriad needs. So many, in fact, that you could argue taking Alabama defensive lineman Jesse Williams or Oregon State cornerback Jordan Poyer would have made more sense over Landry.

But the Steelers still have three rounds and four picks to go.

For now, Jones, who threw for 4,267 yards and 30 touchdowns last season, becomes the seventh quarterback to be drafted.

CBSSports.com scouting report: "Big 12's all-time leading passer. Big arm with smooth delivery, but sloppy footwork. Above-average accuracy when settled in the pocket or on designed roll-outs. Leads receivers down the seam and on crossing routes, places throws low in traffic where only his man can make a play. Fade throws to the sideline are on the money."
