The Denver Broncos are signing former Chargers free-agent linebacker Shaun Phillips, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Phillips had spent his entire nine-year career in San Diego, reaching the Pro Bowl in 2010. He was a solid pass-rusher last season, accruing 9.5 sacks.

The Broncos and Phillips have an interesting history. Back in '09, Phillips got into a reported dust-up with then-Denver head coach Josh McDaniels.

The two have differing accounts of what actually happened, but there was some pregame trash talk between the two prior to the Chargers' 32-3 beatdown of Denver.

McDaniels, of course, is no longer with the Broncos, so the aforementioned episode is a non-factor. Phillips will, however, be a factor in an already stout Denver pass rush. The Broncos were tied for the NFL lead with 52 sacks last season.
