Wallace doesn't understand why 'guys wanna mess with other guys'

NBA basketball player Jason Collins is gay. He came out on Monday and, for the most part, he was embraced for his decision. But despite the well wishes from people in the sports world and outside it, not everyone is on board with Collins' lifestyle.

Which brings us to Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace, who took to Twitter to offer this:

Which prompted an immediate Twitter backlash that caused Wallace to backpedal and clarify:

In related, ironic news: Wallace plays for a team whose mascot is one of the few animals on the planet to engage in homosexuality.

The Dolphins, meanwhile, issued the obligatory statement on the matter:

"Mike Wallace has apologized for his comments, and we have addressed the matter with him. Mike's comments do not reflect the views of the Miami Dolphins. We believe in a culture of inclusiveness and respect, and any statements to the contrary are in no way acceptable to our organization. We will address the entire team about our policy of inclusion and make sure they all understand the importance of respecting individual choices."
