RG3 loses on Kentucky Derby bet; Matt Schaub's wife wins

If you should find yourself at the 2014 Kentucky Derby standing next to Robert Griffin III at the betting window, here's some advice: don't take any betting advice from him. However, Matt Schaub's wife? That's a different story, feel free to listen to her.

RG3 and the Schaub's were in Louisville on Saturday to catch the 139th annual 'Run for the Roses.'

Before the race started, NBC's Michelle Beadle caught up with Griffin and asked him if he had placed a bet on the Derby, "I put a little money -- and when a little, I mean a little money -- on Palace Malice," Griffin said.

Griffin's bet looked good early, as Palace Malice -- a 23-to-1 long shot -- actually led through the first quarter of the race, however, RG3's horse eventually faded and finished 12th.

Griffin shouldn't feel bad though because he wasn't the only NFL quarterback who picked a losing horse. Schaub's horse, Goldencents, finished 17th in the 19 horse race. Goldencents loss was a bit more surprising than Palace Malice's, Schaub's horse was the third favorite in the race, going out at 7-to-1 odds.

If you're wondering what kind of guy Schaub is, he's a guy that really likes the number eight. Not only is that his jersey number in Houston, it was the starting post for Goldencents.

Not everyone lost their bet on Saturday, one person who won: Schaub's wife Lori. As you can see, she went with Orb, the 5-to-1 favorite, who ended up winning the Derby.
