Baltimore Ravens linebacker Rolando McClain has decided to retire from the NFL, the team announced Wednesday.

“Rolando let me know that he plans to retire from the NFL,” general manager Ozzie Newsome said. “We have placed him on the Reserve/Retired list.”

McClain, 23, has had a host of legal problems since entering the league with the Raiders as the eighth overall pick out of Alabama in 2009.

After signing with the Ravens in April, McClain was arrested in his hometown of Decatur, Ala. McClain is due in court July 9 on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, and he pleaded guilty this month to a wintow tint charge, while other charges were dropped.

McClain was also arrested in December of 2011 on assault charges.

In three years with the Raiders, McClain totaled 274 tackles and 6.5 sacks.
