Former Baltimore linebacker Ray Lewis finished his career on top of the football world in February, when his Ravens beat the 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII. Now, Lewis is headed to the top of the actual world. The retired linebacker plans to climb Mount Kilimanjaro -- the tallest freestanding mountain in the world -- in July.

Lewis will be scaling the 19,341 feet to the top of Kilimanjaro to raise money and awareness for clean water projects in East Africa.

"In one month, I will climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to raise money and awareness for clean water projects in East Africa," Lewis wrote on his Lockerdome page. "I am so FIRED UP for this adventure, but until then, I need your help to bring clean water wells to thousands of children and families. Show your support by following my TackleKili journey, spreading the word, and donating to TackleKili."

Lewis has set up a Twitter account to document the journey and a website where fans can go to donate money to help the cause.

If Lewis successfully scales Kilimanjaro, he'll be able to add that to his list of accomplishments that already includes 13 Pro Bowl appearances, two Defensive Player of the Year awards (2000, 2003), two Super Bowl wins, a Super Bowl MVP award in 2000 and Brian Urlacher's endorsement as the best middle linebacker in football history.
