After the Eagles released Babin last year following a nosedive in his production, the Jaguars picked him up on waivers, and they apparently expect big things out of the 33-year-old this season.
He'll fit in as a team “Leo,” a defensive end-outside linebacker hybrid who will be expected to rush the passer. After totaling 18 sacks in 2011 with Philadelphia in the Wide 9 scheme, Babin slumped to seven last season (including 1 1/2 in the five games he played with Jacksonville).
“It's no different than what he was doing in Philly,” Jacksonville defensive line coach Todd Wash said in February. “He's got the skill set to still do it.”
Babin's familiarity with the position likely will help him since he'll miss the rest of offseason workouts recovering from his surgery.
