Mark Sanchez on Jets receivers: 'You don't even know their names'

If you can't name all of the wide receivers on the Jets roster, don't worry, because neither can Mark Sanchez. With Santonio Holmes (foot), Clyde Gates (hamstring), Jeremy Kerley (heel) and Stephen Hill (knee) all nursing injuries, Sanchez has been left with a group of receivers he's not exactly familiar with.

"We came up with some funny nicknames for some of them because you don't even know their names and they're just in there," Sanchez said, via the New York Post.

Those guys that are 'just in there' include three receivers -- Joseph Collins, Zach Rogers and Thomas Mayo -- who have combined to play in a total of zero NFL games. The most experienced uninjured receiver on the roster is Ben Obomanu, a player the Jets just signed last week.

The receiving corps also includes Jordan White, a second-year player out of Western Michigan who caught exactly one pass last season -- for 13 yards.

"It's hard in the sense that these reps are invaluable right now, especially with a developing group," receivers coach Sanjay Lal said.

Fourteen receivers caught passes for New York last season and only one of them -- Kerley -- played in all 16 games.

"Looking back on the whole season, we didn't have a healthy receiver from the beginning of the offseason to the very last game we played," Sanchez said. "We never had everybody out on the field that was, on paper, a starter."

So this is Mark Sanchez's life now: he's trying to win the Jets starting quarterback job by throwing passes to receivers he can't name.
