Jets sign TE Kellen Winslow

After a nine-day stint with the Patriots last September, Kellen Winslow is back in the NFL. On Friday, the former Browns first-round pick signed with the Jets, the team announced. ProFootballTalk.com says it's a one-year deal.

Winslow, who has been plagued by injuries -- both on and off the field -- throughout his career, could be a good fit in New York. The Jets let Dustin Keller walk in the offseason (he eventually signed with the Dolphins), and Jeff Cumberland currently tops the depth chart.

Cumblerland, who had 29 receptions in 15 games last season, welcomes the addition of Winslow.

“With my size and his size … I would be more like [Patriots tight end Rob] Gronkowski, he would be more like [Aaron] Hernandez,” he said, presumably with a straight face, according to the New York Daily News.

And who knows, maybe Winslow will be the missing piece in the Jets puzzle that simultaneously resurrects Mark Sanchez's career and proves once and for all that Rex Ryan can coach.

In nine NFL seasons with the Browns, Buccaneers, Seahawks and Patriots, Winslow has 438 receptions for 4,848 yards and 23 touchdowns.
