Cowboys release Anthony Hargrove after a month

The Cowboys released defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove on Thursday, one month after signing him. Hargrove, who spent 2009-2010 in New Orleans, missed the 2012 season after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him for his role in the Saints bounty scandal.

Hargrove was added to the Cowboys' roster in part because third-year player Josh Brent could face a league suspension due to a DUI arrest. But one team executive told CBSDFW.com's Mike Fisher that Hargrove was let go because "his body didn't bounce back from a year away from football.

“He just didn't have the old burst back,'' the Cowboys source continued. “He's almost 30. It's not easy to start all over again.''

A team source added: “It's got nothing to do with him personally. He's a good guy.''

Hargrove, 29, last played in an NFL game in December 2011.
