When Ravens running back Bernard Pierce was robbed and carjacked at gunpoint on Sunday, it may not have been a random act of violence. Pierce's mom, Tammy, believes that her son was targeted.

"First of all, I thank God that he's fine. I don't care whatever he lost -- his car, whatever was in there. He's fine," Tammy Pierce said, via KYW-TV in Philadelphia. "I think he was targeted because people knew who he was, and that's sad."

During Sunday's robbery, Pierce and his cousin were robbed at gunpoint near a pizza store in Philly around 5:30 p.m. The suspect got away with Pierce's wallet and cell phone before stealing Pierce's BMW.

Philadelphia police later recovered the car, a vehicle that Tammy Pierce said was only two weeks old. Tammy also said that Bernard had been in Philadelphia for about a week visiting family before the robbery occurred.

Pierce grew up about 10-miles away from Philadelphia in nearby Ardmore, Pa., and attended Temple University.

Tammy Pierce said Bernard is now concerned for his own safety, but she was grateful that he was unharmed during the robbery.

"It could have turned out to be a whole different ballgame," Tammy said. "He's good, he's healthy."

Three days after the incident, there have been no arrests made and Philadelphia police are hoping anyone with information will come forward.
