Last week apparently wasn't the first time that Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez showed his bare butt at a party. It just happened to be the first time that he did it while being filmed on a video that eventually went viral.
Former Jets quarterback Erik Ainge, who spent three seasons in New York (2008-10), said that Sanchez was in a similar situation in 2009, but a video of Sanchez streaking in his condo never made it to the Internet because Ainge smashed the cell phone that was holding the video.
Ainge also shed some light on how Sanchez gets himself into such peculiar situations.
"There were numerous times when things would happen, when things would go down, articles of clothing would be removed. Mark is goofy," Ainge said, via Metro.us. "He played truth or dare. He was kind of awkward around girls, so he needed other people around him to help him out. I was good at that -- there were other guys who were good with that. So we'd help him out and talk him through his awkwardness."
Compared to players who are actually getting arrested, Ainge calls what Sanchez does "child's play."
"He's never breaking the law," Ainge said. "Look at Aaron Hernandez; Mark Sanchez is child's play in the NFL, as far as off-the-field stuff. I'd know as good as anybody -- what Mark does off the field is child's play. He's dumb about it. He's stupid while being stupid. You have to be smart while being stupid, and he's dumb while being dumb. Look at the butt video. He needs someone he trusts there when Mark wants to go streaking through his own condo."
Ainge wasn't exactly smart off-the-field, either. He retired from football in 2011 after battling injuries and substance-abuse problems for years. The former Tennessee Volunteer quarterback now hosts his own radio show in Tennessee.
As for Sanchez, he seems to have the damage control thing down. Less than one week after the video of his bare butt was released on YouTube, it's virtually impossible to find on the Internet. Although plenty of still photos still exist.
