Mike Pouncey and Maurkice Pouncey made some waves on Sunday when photographs of them wearing "Free Hernandez" hats started making the rounds on the old Internet. And though the Dolphins and Steelers won't comment on the lids, they are reportedly prepared to talk to the brothers about their choices in clothing.
According to John Clayton of ESPN, the Pounceys' respective teams are taking Clark Judge's advice and plan to have a private discussion with them about their decision to support Aaron Hernandez, a former college teammate at Florida, through a fashion choice.
Maurkice might have already been spoken to, or at least recognizes the gravity of what he did, as the lineman tweeted out an apology on Monday morning.
"I fully recognize the seriousness of the situation involving my former teammate, and I regret that my actions appear to make light of that serious situation," Maurkice wrote on Twitter. "I apologize to anyone who was offended by my actions."
Hernandez, obviously, is the subject of much public scrutiny and criticism, having been arrested and charged with killing Odin Lloyd. Hernandez is being held in jail without bond, in solitary confinement, and his former college teammates clearly continue to support him.
And that's something that their teams apparently don't support. It's hard to blame them.
