Earl Thomas' reaction to Jairus Byrd contract demands: LOL

The Buffalo Bills had until 4 p.m. Monday to work out a long-term deal with franchise player Jairus Byrd. That didn't happen.

Part of the reason the two sides were reportedly unable to work out a long-term deal is because Byrd wants to be the "highest paid safety" in the NFL. Not the highest paid safety in the AFC East or the AFC or in the state of New York, but in the entire NFL.

That honor currently belongs to Pittsburgh's Troy Polamalu, whose four-year deal pays him an average of $9.125 million per season.

Seahawks safety Earl Thomas noticed Byrd's demands and had this reaction on Twitter.

Now, there seems to be only two reasons why Thomas would react with an LOL:

1. Thomas doesn't think Byrd should be the highest-paid safety in the NFL.

2. It's a reverse-psychology LOL, and Thomas actually wants the Bills to pay Byrd. If the Bills make Byrd the highest-paid safety in the NFL, that's where Thomas can presumably begin negotiations when he starts talking extension with the Seahawks, which should happen after this season. Thomas' current contract runs through the 2014 season.

LOL's aside, Byrd still hasn't signed his franchise tender. If Byrd does eventually sign it, he'll make a $6.9 million base salary in 2013.
