Four months after signing him to a three-year deal worth $3.71 million, the Patriots have released receiver Donald Jones, according to

The move won't cost the Patriots any money since none of Jones' contract was guaranteed, and it means more reps will be available for rookie receivers Aaron Dobson and Josh Boyce when the team opens training camp.

It also means newly acquired veteran WR Michael Jenkins will have a better chance to make the team, though New England also has Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman and Matthew Slater in its receiver group.

Jones likely will draw some interest on the free-agent market. Though he's been hampered by injuries, he's coming off his best season as a pro, catching 41 passes for 443 yards and four touchdowns last year in Buffalo.
