Chicago didn't waste any time filling the roster spot of newly retired defensive lineman Sedrick Ellis.

After Ellis surprised the Bears with his retirement announcement on Thursday, Chicago went out and signed defensive end Jamaal Anderson to a one-year deal, the team announced. Both Ellis and Anderson are former top-10 picks.

Ellis was taken with the seventh overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft by the Saints, while Anderson was selected eighth overall pick in the 2007 draft by the Falcons.

Anderson spent four seasons in Atlanta before signing with the Colts as a free agent in 2011. Anderson had been cut by the Falcons for not living up to the hype of a top-10 pick. The former Arkansas star recorded only 4½ sacks during his four seasons in Atlanta.

After one season with Indianapolis, Anderson made the move to Cincinnati, where he signed a two-year, $5.5 million deal with the Bengals in March 2012.

Anderson's Bengals career consisted of exactly two games. The 27-year-old tore his quadriceps in Week 2 and was eventually placed on injured reserve. The Bengals released Anderson on July 10.
