Chip Kelly is giving one of his former New Hampshire standouts a chance to make the Eagles roster. Philadelphia signed wide receiver Dave Ball on Saturday, the team announced.

Ball played under Kelly for four seasons at New Hampshire (2003-06), where Kelly served as offensive coordinator.

The combination of Ball and Kelly was a lethal one at New Hampshire: Ball finished his college career with 58 touchdown catches, an FCS-record that still stands. The record Ball broke had been previously held by Jerry Rice.

Ball hasn't been able to latch on with any NFL teams since leaving New Hampshire in 2006, but he did spend some time on both the Bears and the Jets practice squads. The 29-year-old has also spent time playing Canadian and arena football.

The addition of Ball had nothing to do with the leg injury that Jeremy Maclin suffered during practice on Saturday, according to the team. Ball was signed to fill the roster spot of running back William Powell, who was released on Friday.
