The Dolphins have signed safety Reshad Jones to a four-year, $30 million deal, according to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora. Jones is a former fifth-round pick out of Georgia who was set to make $1.32 million this season.

Jones had planned to skip offseason workouts unless he got a new contract but he reported and general manager Jeff Ireland promised that the team would "eventually" open discussions on a new deal. Less than three months later, Jones got what he wanted.

As training camps were opening last month, CBSSports.com's Pete Prisco described Jones as one of the NFL's best-kept secrets.

“If you ask the majority of people out there, right now, who played better safety in 2012, Reshad Jones or Ed Reed, they'd say Ed Reed," Prisco said during an interview with the Finsiders. "Reshad Jones outplayed him double. That's how good Reshad Jones played last year.”

Jones ranked 74th on Prisco's annual list of top 100 players.
