Report: Bryan Bulaga to have ACL surgery

By Josh Katzowitz | NFL Writer

After tearing his ACL last weekend, it was thought Packers left tackle Bryan Bulaga would be out for the season, but as of Tuesday, the team and Bulaga reportedly were still trying to figure out if he could play the 2013 season without surgery.

This sounded silly on a couple of different levels, and now Pro Football Talk is reporting that Bulaga will have the surgery after all.

This comes after Bulaga and the Packers got a second opinion from the famed Dr. James Andrews.

On Tuesday, the Packers used rookie David Bakhtiari at the left tackle spot and kept Marshall Newhouse at right tackle.

It's assumed Bulaga will miss the entire 2013 season. Unless, of course, he sets an Adrian Peterson-type precedent for the recovery time of offensive lineman rehabbing ACL tears and returns by the end of the year.

In order to do that, though, the team would need to keep him on the active roster all year or place him on the once-per-season short-term IR list. Most likely, though, Bulaga is headed to the season-ending IR list.
