Robert Griffin III is about to take the next step in his rehabilitation from major offseason knee surgery -- he confirmed weekend reports Monday that he would be participating in team drills and expects to do 11-on-11 drills starting Tuesday.

RG3, who was sporting a new 'do courtesy of Candace at the Beauty Bar in Richmond, also said "there's no doubt" he'll be suited up for the Redskins in Week 1 against the Eagles on Monday night.

"There's no doubt I'm playing Week 1," Griffin said. "That's the way I feel about it."

Just don't expect the line about no preseason action to change -- Griffin said he's currently at a "hard no" from coach Mike Shanahan when it comes to the preseason, although he will have "live action," starting Tuesday.

"Just live action. I don't think it's a huge step," Griffin said. "It's just time to get back out there with my teammates. I've proven that I'm capable of protecting myself."

It's pretty clear that Griffin believes he's ahead of his the scheduled laid out by the coaching staff. It's also clear that Griffin doesn't really understand -- and definitely doesn't like -- Shanahan's timeline, which is "predetermined" and won't change based on RG3's progress.

"I can't BS that answer. So, uh, no. I don't like it," Griffin said when asked about Shanahan's plan. "There's some part of it that I do understand. I don't understand all of it. At the end of the day he gave me his word. We talked privately. I know the whole plan. I'm not telling the whole plan. I don't understand the whole plan at all and I can't lie about that."

Griffin also said that Shanahan previously "expressed regret" about leaving him in the playoff game against the Seahawks -- when Griffin suffered the horrific injury -- too long, although he wouldn't offer specifics on what Shanahan told him.

"We ironed that out," Griffin said.

And he made perhaps the most important of all: Shanahan's plan has him slated to start Week 1. Griffin is, quite obviously, confident he'll be ready for that. And as long as the plan continues on track and results in Griffin taking snaps for the Redskins against the Eagles in prime time to start the season, then the star quarterback is perfectly fine walking half-blindly down his path to recovery.
