San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Demarcus Dobbs won't be playing in the 49ers' regular-season opener against the Packers. The NFL announced on Wednesday that Dobbs has been suspended for Week 1 for violating the league's policy on substance abuse.

Dobbs was arrested in November for possession of marijuana following a single-car accident in Santa Clara, Calif. Although, as the San Francisco Chronicle points out, it's not clear if Dobbs' suspension stems from that incident or another incident and the NFL has done nothing to clarify the situation.

Dobbs has been with the 49ers since 2011 and has played in a total of 15 games during that two-year span. The 25-year-old had spent most of training camp working as a No. 2 defensive end.

"The San Francisco 49ers organization supports the NFL's code of conduct policy and their recent decision regarding Demarcus," general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement.

Although Dobbs is suspended he can participate in preseason games and practices. Dobbs will be eligible to return to the active roster on Sept. 9.
