Report: Jamaal Charles out for Chiefs on Friday night

Jamaal Charles put a scare in Chiefs fans during the preseason when he suffered a foot injury and had to be, gasp, carted off (that's sarcasm -- everyone's carted in the preseason). He won't be scaring anyone on Friday, though, as he's reportedly not playing.

Pro Football Talk reports that Charles will sit on Friday when Kansas City squares off against the 49ers.

This is hardly surprising, given that playing Charles in a game that doesn't count that soon after his injury is just asking for something bad to happen.

What's a little more odd is PFT reporting that the "current plan" is for Charles to miss the Chiefs remaining preseason games.

Again, maybe this shouldn't come as a stunner: Charles suffered a major injury at the beginning of the 2011 season and the last thing this offense can deal with is losing their centerpiece.

Being careful with Charles is critical for Kansas City, and they already know what the talented, multi-faceted running back can do. He can get thrown in for the start of the season and perform at a high level without really skipping a beat.

The one concern, though (and bear in mind this is only a concern), might be that Charles injury is worse than initially diagnosed and that's why Andy Reid is keeping him out of the entire preseason. Or planning to keep him out of the entire preseason.

He could certainly change that stance a week from now and Charles is, probably, just fine. But it's certainly something that warrants watching. Or, in this case, not watching.
