Report: Richie Incognito involved in fight at hotel before camp

Richie Incognito, the hot-tempered Dolphins guard who has been in his fair share of on-field scrapes -- most recently involving Texans defensive end Antonio Smith -- has also found trouble off the field. Prior to training camp, Incognito was partying at a nightclub in the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami, when he punched -- and knocked out -- a hotel security guard, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, who adds: "One person who knows Incognito says the Dolphins guard was punched first."

There's also this from the Miami Herald's Adam Beasley:

There is video of the incident but according to the report, the hotel is unwilling to turn it over to the NFL, perhaps to avoid the negative attention. The Dolphins, meanwhile, are aware of the issue and one source told Schefter that the organization has "done everything to bury it."

The NFL declined comment.

This news comes a day after the NFL suspended Smith for swinging a helmet at Incognito during Saturday's Texans-Dolphins preseason game. Smith, who has a history with Incognito, apologized for his actions and is appealing his ruling.

A video of the Smith-Incognito altercation shows Incognito sticking his hands under Smith's facemask and shoving Smith before the Texans' defensive end rips off Incognito's helmet and swings it at him. According to Schefter, coaches who viewed the film said Incognito did nothing wrong on the play.

Not surprisingly, Smith disagrees.

"The full video speaks for itself," he said Tuesday. "He punched me in the face mask and once he punched me in the face mask, you can see him hold onto it and try to bend my neck back, holding my face mask all the way up. I finally got his hand off of my facemask, he punched me one last time with his right hand. It was a deliberate punch to my face. You see how far my head went back. It was a deliberate grab of my face mask, the twisting and the jerking of it and then one last punch at the end."
