Remember when Tim Tebow was the story in New York. Seems like decades ago, right? But that manufactured drama doesn't come close to what Rex Ryan is currently facing after deciding to send Mark Sanchez onto the field in the fourth quarter of a meaningless preseason game only to watch the quarterback injure his throwing shoulder.
Somehow, inexplicably, the Jets' quarterback situation is worse than ever.
Geno Smith's debut as a starter included three interceptions and a safety, as well as the realization that he's not ready for the full-time gig. Except now, because Sanchez has one working limb, the Jets might not have choice.
The Jets will kick the tires on Matt Leinart and John Beck, according to Gil Brandt of SiriusXM NFL Radio (by way of PFT). But the two quarterbacks, who never did much in their first go-rounds in the NFL, are suddenly in demand: The Bills will reportedly work them out, too, after losing Kevin Kolb to concussion-like symptoms in Saturday's preseason game.
We say just give the job to Matt Simms and see what happens.
Wait. Jimmy Clausen might become a free agent and the Jets need QB help? Please make this happen: http://t.co/ySqG4ugFGp— Will Brinson (@WillBrinson) August 25, 2013
Yes, it's a ludicrous suggestions -- until you remember that this is Rex Ryan and the Jets. The only ludicrous suggestions are the ones not seriously considered.
