It's been a rough month for Felton, who underwent emergency appendectomy surgery on Aug. 14. Felton hasn't practiced with the Vikings since undergoing the procedure.
The 27-year-old's three-game suspension stems from a June 2012 DUI arrest. Felton, who was arrested at a McDonald's drive-thru, had been with the Vikings for less than three months when he was arrested. The charge was reduced to reckless driving, but it was his second DUI arrest in four years, according to NFL.com.
Felton's loss could hurt the production of Vikings running back Adrian Peterson. Peterson was able to run for a league-high 2,097 yards last year, thanks in large part to Felton's ability to lead block.
The Vikings open up the regular season with two divisional road games -- at Detroit, at Chicago. Felton will miss both of those, plus Minnesota's Week 3 home opener against Cleveland.
