It's almost impossible for the Jets and their quarterback situation to become any more of a mess than it is right now. Rex Ryan's debacle of a press conference on Saturday is drawing national attention as well as the state and local levels. It's assumed that Jets GM John Idzik will have plenty of say in who plays quarterback for the team in Week 1 against the Buccaneers.
After all, he said as much recently. But perhaps that's not the case: the New York Daily News Manish Mehta reports that Rex will ultimately have the final say on who will start at quarterback.
"I'm sure John will have his say," a team source told Mehta. "But at the end of the day, Rex will consult his coaches and make the decision."
So this kind of sounds like Rex and Idzik are a little more "side by side" than they have been in the past, yes?
Perhaps it's more of a thing where Idzik will let Rex make the choice, but if the coach chooses ... poorly then he'll be at much more of a risk of losing his job and his grip on the decision-making process. We'll see.
At the very least, that the Jets are finally wising up and creating a consistent message that might quell some of the concern about the organization and its starting quarterback. No one can stop the circus, because the circus has come to town and the tent is at the very least semi-permanent.
