Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall said on Tuesday that his surgically repaired hip isn't quite where he wants it to be. On Wednesday, Marshall was conspicuously absent from practice.

Marshall's comments about his hip and his absence are a coincidence, according to Bears coach Marc Trestman. Trestman said on Wednesday that the team had previously planned for Marshall to miss four days of practice. According to, Marshall was at a follow-up appointment stemming from his January hip surgery.

"This was a planned-out miss today for personal reasons," Trestman said, via

Trestman was then asked if Marshall's absence was related to his hip, but he refused to take the bait.

"I'd rather just leave it to personal reasons out of respect to Brandon, but it's all good," Trestman said. "As I've said when I let guys go for personal reasons, it's all good, and this is all good. It's not reflected in anything other than I gave him time off. He will be back on Sunday."

Marshall underwent hip surgery in January -- the third hip surgery of his career -- and then had nearly the entire offseason off before returning to practice in June.

"As far as me not being out there today, this is something we've had planned since camp [opened]," Marshall told "I had some things I needed to do, and I sat down with Coach Trestman and we decided [Wednesday] would be the best time to do it."

Right now, the hip is the only thing in life bothering Marshall, "Other than the hip, I'm feeling great and life is good," he said.

Marshall's expected back at practice on Sunday, which will give him one week to prepare for the Bears Sept. 8 regular season opener against the Bengals.
