When Browns rookie linebacker Barkevious Mingo, the No. 6 pick overall, bruised his lung in a preseason game earlier this month, the results turned scary soon afterward when he began coughing up blood.

At that point, it was thought Mingo could be out for as long as two months, because the blood signified a more serious injury.

Now, though an ESPN report states that Mingo, though he probably won't play in the team's season opener, is expected to return by Week 2.

Mingo is scheduled for a CT scan Monday, and the results of that will determine whether Cleveland will try to get him ready to play in Week 1.

Mingo, though, hasn't practiced since he hurt himself in the Detroit game about two weeks ago. He's begun to run on the side and has worked with weights, but he still hasn't been cleared to practice.

"We have no timetable,” coach Rob Chudzinski told reporters earlier this week. "We'll just have to see how he progresses and how he heals.”

Chudzinski also said the team doesn't plan to place Mingo on the short-term IR list, which would keep him from playing for half the season.

Instead, it sounds like we'll see Mingo sooner rather than later, which is stupendous news for a Browns squad that, at one point, was rightfully worried about his prognosis.
