The Buffalo Bills might have to start an undrafted free agent at quarterback in Week 1, but apparently, that's not a good enough reason to keep Matt Leinart around.

Leinart, the 10th overall pick of the 2006 NFL Draft, tweeted on Friday that he's been released by the Bills. Although Leinart later deleted the tweet, this is the internet and nothing is really ever deleted forever.

Leinart's five-day career in Buffalo will probably most be remembered for the seven-yard pass he threw to tight end Lee Smith in the Bills 35-13 preseason loss to the Lions on Thursday. Leinart finished the game 3-of-10 for 11 yards while also throwing two interceptions.

If Thursday's loss to Detroit ends up being the final game of Leinart's NFL career, well, at least he'll have the 2004 Heisman Trophy to fall back on, right Adrian Peterson?

"I look at that [Heisman] trophy now and knowing that Matt Leinart has it, with how his career went, I would rather him have it," Peterson told the Los Angeles Times in July, via PFT. "At least he has something positive to look back on and say, 'I won the Heisman.'"
