Report: Falcons to release wrongly incarcerated LB Brian Banks

By John Breech | CBSSports.com

Being cut by an NFL team isn't the end of the world and no one knows that more than Brian Banks. Banks, who spent five years in prison after being falsely accused of rape, will be released by the Falcons, according to FoxSports.com.

It's been a long road for Banks, who was falsely accused of rape in 2002. After being convicted, Banks spent five years in prison and another five years on probation. In February 2011, the alleged-victim of the rape recanted her confession and admitted she had fabriacted the story, which led to Banks' exoneration in May 2011.

Since signing with the Falcons in April, Banks has been soaking everything in. On Thursday, the 28-year-old linebacker brought his mom to the Falcons final preseason game. Banks documented his six months with the Falcons on Instagram, which you can see here.

Just because Banks has been cut doesn't mean his NFL career is over. The former USC linebacker is practice squad-eligible, so he could end up there. The league's 32 teams can start building their practice squads beginning at 12 p.m. ET on Sunday.

FoxSports.com is also reporting that if things don't work out for Banks in the NFL, he could end up being offered a job with the Falcons by team owner Arthur Blank.
