The kicking competition in Green Bay might not be over just yet.
Veteran kicker Mason Crosby outlasted free agents Giorgio Tavecchio and Zach Ramirez in training camp, but that doesn't mean the Packers are done looking at kickers. Green Bay brought in Havard Rugland for a work out on Friday and according to Kickalicious, things went well.
Had a great workout with Green bay this morning. Thankful for the opportunity— Håvard Rugland (@MrRugland) August 30, 2013
Rugland has been a free agent since Tuesday, when the Lions cut him in favor of 16-year veteran David Akers. Kickalicious was a perfect 3-for-3 during the preseason, hitting field goals of 33-, 49- and 50-yards for the Lions.
In the end though, Detroit decided to give its kicking job to Akers, even though the veteran only connected on 69 percent of his field goals in 2012, the second worst number in the NFL.
The worst number in the league actually belonged to Crosby, who only hit 63.6 percent of his kicks last season. If Crosby shows any signs of struggle in practice, don't be shocked if you see the Packers sign Kickalicious to an actual deal.
