Colts waive John Boyett following Labor Day arrest

Colts safety John Boyett was arrested early Monday morning and faces preliminary charges of disorderly conduct, public intoxication and resisting law enforcement. By Tuesday, the Colts had waived Boyett, a rookie sixth-round pick out of Oregon, from the reserve/non-football injury list.

According to an Indianapolis police report, the 23-year-old Boyett was upset that he was not allowed into a downtown nightclub because he had had too much to drink. Boyett, who ran when an officer attempted to arrest him, was eventually caught. It was at that time that he told the officer, “You can't arrest me, I'm a Colts player.”

Yes, Boyett is recovering from a knee injury, but anytime you get tracked down by a guy in a uniform wearing a utility belt who doesn't answer to Batman, it doesn't bode well for your longterm prospects as a professional athlete.
